Tennessee’s Grocery Tax Holiday 2023

Tennessee is one of the few states that applies a tax on food items. However, this year, the State is offering its residents a much-needed reprieve from rising grocery costs. The State has implemented a Grocery Tax Holiday, which begins on August 1, 2023, and ends on October 31, 2023.

The Grocery Tax Holiday

The Tax Holiday applies to Food and Food Ingredients. The state defines ‘Food and food ingredients’ as “liquid, concentrated, solid, frozen, dried, or dehydrated substances that are sold to be ingested or chewed by humans and are consumed for their taste or nutritional value.”

Alcoholic beverages, tobacco, candy, dietary supplements, and prepared food are not eligible for the tax holiday.

More Information on the Grocery Tax Holiday can be found here.
